Bringing ideas into public life
In 2023, I attended the National Endowment Summer Institute on the topic "Bioengineering and the Humanities" at Arizona State University. To bring ideas into public life, I discussed with the Institute's co-leaders and my summer colleagues the role of the liberal arts in addressing dramatic developments in gene engineering and the ethical issues they pose. The value of liberal arts approaches in research and pedagogy became a recurrent theme.
